the rice without the authority of the British Consul at Swatow.

The typhoon which fringed Hongkong on Wednesday, 15th July, struck Swatow, but from reports received all shipping survived and apart from two vessels which fouled sach other no serious damage
was done.

On 11th July I.M.S."MUBBELL" reported that General Hau's troops from Kityang raided the E.P.Mission at a King Fu, and badly manhandled thres missionaries, one man and two ladies, robbed
them, and looted the mission. On the representation of the village elders they were given three days to leave the village and
eventually arrived at 9matow safely.

In view of the fact that "KLU ZEILL" requires to coal
shortly, I propose relieving her about 22nd July by H.M.S."YOXELOFF"
for about a week, in order that "ELUXBILL" can coal and store at
Hongkong.

Little news has been received from Anoy, but it
appears that the boycott has become more severe although the strike of servants has been postponed until 1st August.

HOIHOT. Until recently Consular despatches from Hoihow indicated a more satisfactory situation, but on 14th July a dis- quieting telegram was received via Singapore asking for the presence of a warship, and I directed H.M.S."FOX@LOVE" to proosed to Hoihow on 16th July to report on the situation, with instructions to return after a brief stay. A copy of smiling orders issued to H.M.S.
"FCXGLOVE" is attached.
I am informed that the U.5.8."ASHVILLE" will be visiting Hoihow shortly after the departure of H.M.8."FOXGLOVE".
